Wickerwoods is a mystery adventure horror intended for adult audiences. The story swaps between following Cole and Michael as they discover many mysteries going on around a small town in the woods. This town has been known for its criminal activity and violence, making Cole and Michael's journeys more convoluted and sometimes dangerous.
The day work on it began can be debated due to the original version of the story differing drastically from its state now. You could say that Wickerwoods began on October 20, 2024. But if you are asking for when the earliest story listed on the site was written, you could say writing would have begun on April 1, 2024 when it was called Wicketwoods. If you consider any form of the story no matter how much it has changed and it not having to be on the site, then writing began all the way back in 2008. Though as you can imagine that version of the story was mere skin and bones compared to today through learning how to write and collaboration with others. Whichever date you consider the true age of Wickerwoods is up to you and your definition of it's start.
All of the characters are written by LochlanNor except for one. The character Cole Genesone is part of a stand alone arg series known as Cole Genesone Industries. The writer of this arg has done collaborative crossovers with Wickerwoods to allow his character to make appearances in the story.
Previous versions of Wickerwoods also has a lot of collaborative writing but with many more people.
The very first version of my story was written around 2008 and titled Willow after the main character. I was Inspired by "Fox in Socks," by Dr.seuss, to write a story after getting the book for free with a Bambi plush as a kid. I decided to make the story so I could have others to relate to. Keep in mind I was still a child, my writing was horrendous. Willow was an average fox who befriended a red colored fox named Melody while sitting under a willow tree. Afterwards they both become separated due to a blizzard. Willow meets a pink colored fox named Ivy who helps her escape getting trapped in snow. Ivy suggests consulting a large gray fox named Sequoia who lives in an abandoned castle in the mountain in case Melody went to higher ground. Along the way they almost get run over by a train and meet a green fox named Evergreen who has a crush on Ivy. They also meet Sequoia's brother Pine who helps navigate them. They reach the castle where Willow battles and defeats Sequoia on Pine's behalf due to an argument about who was in charge. Melody then arrives and the story ends in the least climactic way.
Somewhere in 2008 - 2012 my story was called Puff academy featuring generic solid colored furries and the town's hyperactive children highly inspired by the kindergarteners from "Recess,” who somehow grow up to look like the other furries. They were also made based on a puffball with googly eyes, pipe cleaner ears, and paper feet that were a prize toy you could get in my class at school at the time. The puffs however had no use in the story. The three characters and only characters are blue, orange, and pink...and yes that's their names too. Just as everyone goes through their putting characters in a band phase, my story was about a small band at puff academy learning to be friends. Blue was the heroic lead guitar, Orange was the hyper skateboarder, and pink was the friendly singer and dancer. But due to being uninformed on how cancer works, how it isn't just another type of cold, or even what it is, I thought it was perfectly fine to make a rival band all have cancer so there is an opening for my characters to get into the band competition. I am sorry, I can't change what I didn't know back then. So my characters compete and win first place because my arrogant little self wanted to always win. The end. I also recall being greatly inspired by “Take Off and Land Kitsune2” by Lapfox when making the story.
In middle school 2013 I began having an identity crisis with my characters that I decided to upgrade from Willow. The old title was trashed but a new one was never chosen during this period. Willow morphed into Sky1 and 2, Crystal, Light, Harmony, and a black and white fox at various times as I became indecisive about the name and appearance. Ivy became a black and yellow wolf named Star as Evergreen remained the same. Melody became a skull wearing wolf named Skullfi and Pine became a blue wolf named Jay. Sequoia was dropped as a derpy sheep dog named Paul, a tiger named Siri, and a tree-headed monster was added. The story became chopped up ideas being thrown everywhere until it wasn't coherent. It began resembling more of an endless low budget anime and the criticism received at school greatly reflected how bad my writing skills were at the time. I started to realize my stories were never the greatest, sometimes they were even hot garbage.
After realizing how much I had messed up the story I had, I backtracked to Willow again in 2014. I retitled it as The Legend of Willow. I didn’t care about writing the best story anymore. Now I only cared about how people viewed the story on its own. I started getting tired of people calling my stories cute and never took it seriously. I chose to rewrite Willow to be more of a brutal survival story in the woods. Everything is pretty much the same except for more realism and an additional fight at the end against a lion and a three headed dragon using magic. I still wasn't happy after making this version as people still thought the story was just as cute as before.
Somewhere in 2014 to 2015 I renamed the story Black Feather. I was still trying to keep the story and characters from being considered cute and began experimenting with darker themes and ideas just for the sake of being edgy. At the time though I started to gain a bigger passion for writing, getting closer to knowing what I loved about it. The story revolved around a gray fox named Epsilon Moon as a red herring. She meets Jemia a winged wolf, Leon a gray fox, Nisshoku a winged wolf, Demi a fennec fox, Bifferson a snow leopard, Eromem a giant monster snake, Mitsune a fox, and an unnamed ghost fox that did literally nothing as it was underdeveloped. Mitsune had a broken jaw due to being bullied and lives to collect jaws from others and wear them. Mitsune meets Eromem while hunting the others. Eromem advises against hunting for revenge and explains he is a dead spirit who died and now suffers from his life being wasted on revenge. He can not move on from this world till he can prevent someone from meeting his same fate. In the end Mitsune refuses to listen and is killed by Jemia who is the only survivor. Now followed by the spirits of Eromem and Mitsune, she continues the cycle and leaves to seek revenge for those that harm others. But I still wasn’t quite happy with this one as I was still writing for others instead of myself.
In 2015 I added more characters and renamed the story Vague. It follows the same storyline as Black Feather but starts before Mitsune had broken his jaw. Scrapmetal a shoebill stork, Azzaras a sabertooth snow leopard, Zeta a spotted hyena, and Pablo a puffin was added to the story. They all begin as friends until harmless jokes slowly turn into hate and Mitsune ends up having his jaw broken by Azzaras. Azzaras then has nightmares about a large snake creature wearing a mammoth skull who will later be revealed as Eromem. The story then continues as it did in Black Feather. I got bored with how the story was developing so awkwardly. This is when I started trying to figure out why I enjoyed making this story to begin with. I'm glad I went through all of these phases so I could figure out what I liked about a story.
*Warning* This recap of Tony the Stallion contains topics about suicide and depression. It gets really dark and I'd rather not lie about what this story was going to be. Tony the Stallion was a comic I made separate from my usual story. Due to making more complex stories as I aged this story was a practice at battling even darker topics than before, though the comics never got far enough in the story to display them. This story is about Tony and Azzaras, and Azzaras's crush named Dren. Azzaras was born with "inverted" red eyes with the ability to see people's dreams and desires. When he looked in the mirror he saw his desire was to be with Dren. But when he looked at Dren he saw no dreams or desires. There was no way to win her over the way he usually could charm people. When Dren ends up in a car accident and in the hospital recovering, Azzaras panics and traps the world in Dren's dreams (don’t ask me how, I never developed that part) so he could search for her desire seeing that he's been reminded that anyone's time alive is only temporary. During his search he discovers that in her dreams, Azzaras is considered a nightmare and as deceitful, making him turn into more of a nightmare and more deceitful the longer he keeps the world in her dreams. But this also gave him power over other nightmares in the dreams such as one of Dren's old childhood fears, a bear with a snake head, deer antlers, flowing black hair, and spiders for hands. Soon Azzaras meets Tony who is a representation of one of Dren's friends in real life. There are also clones of people that act differently than they should but the correct representations of a person are referred to as daybreakers. There were even going to be more characters that are only representations of concepts such as insomnia. Dren's dreams slowly become more and more full of nightmares as Azzaras refuses to fix the world. The daybreaker of Dren tells Azzaras that she was happy how she was. Azzaras uses his ability to see desires to look at the daybreaker of Dren to only see the world how it was before Azzaras messed everything up. He sees Tony, Dren, the Stork, and others all enjoying life without hunting for approval from others. Azzaras panics and says every nightmare has to be eradicated, including himself. He kills all of the nightmares and then himself but only in the dream. Just before the world is returned to normal, they watch as Dren's daybreaker becomes the only nightmare. When in the real world again all of Dren's friends rush to the hospital to find Dren waking up from a nightmare that had made her scared. Azzaras arrives as well but is no longer controlled by what Dren thinks he is like. In the real world he is kind and asks for forgiveness. They begin befriending Azzaras as he looks at Dren to see no desires again and looks at himself in the mirror to finally see no desires, content without her. The story ends with Azzaras smiling at his reflection. The story was meant to display that you can't know for sure who someone is without meeting them. Here I had a much better grasp on what it was I loved about writing as I was writing for my own enjoyment and not seeking approval of others.
In 2016 I began working on Pyrrhic. I figured out what I loved about writing this story was the characters, their personalities, and experiences. I started to feel motivated again as I actually liked every character I made. Writing was fun again and I enjoyed thinking of creative ways for each of them to develop and grow with the story. For once I wrote for myself and wasn't afraid if my characters came across as cute. Jemia a black wolf, Demi a fennec fox, Olivia the pet snake, Kadea the fox, Akira the Arctic fox, Clair the hyena, Dray the collie, and Dr.Grey the gray fox, all interacted in the beach town of Greywood. This is when Jemia's mask from Hectic was first designed as a kitsune mask that Kadea carried around while obsessed with kitsune lore. A mystery arose in the town over a fire that burnt down a mansion nearby. Kadea constantly suggests a kitsune to have caused the fire while the others hunt for clues. Many of the clues point towards something similar to kitsune but all could very well be something else entirely. I never could decide which one had started the fire. Along the way I had planned for Jemia to learn to warm up to Akira despite how annoying he can be. In turn Akira would learn to appreciate everyone else and get over his fear of snakes. He would then help Dray teach Clair how to swim. I was so happy to be enjoying developing characters again but I still had more work ahead of me as I had more ideas.
This version was untitled in 2017. I fell in love with horror and mystery and began putting secrets and evolving the plot of the story. Due to the sheer wall of ideas I never got a full story figured out. Around this time all of my characters started going through redesigns like crazy and began implementing the hybrids and purebreds into the story as plot points. I decided not to pull any punches regarding the storyline and its topics. The characters for this version were Rust a Kangaroo mouse and giraffe, Clair a sphinx cat, Akira a raccoon, Jemia a purebred silver fox, Lock a red panda and moon bear, Dray a Collie, Dr.Grey a purebred gray fox, and Usha a maned wolf. Originally Lock and Usha were designed as background characters but were kept as main characters as my favorite animal switched from foxes to red pandas and I began to like my background characters too much to not let them interact with the others.
Characters in this version included Julia a silver fox, Jemia a silver fox, Usha a maned wolf, Wes a raccoon dog, Willis a raccoon dog, Camellia a doberman, Biff a domestic shorthaired cat, Franky a kangaroo and opossum, Rust a giraffe and mouse, Jasper a hyena, and Olivia a pet albino ball python. Jemia has a kitsune-like mask again and Lock is now missing half her tail. I had temporarily gotten rid of the purebred concept. I also began transitioning the story from a written book to a graphic novel but had issues drawing everyone with complicated clothing.
This story was meant to be in a comic form revolving around Lock the red panda, Wes the raccoon dog, Usha the otter, Julia the silver fox, Jemia the silver fox, and Camellia the doberman. The story was about how Julia and Usha were in a relationship. Usha was in it for the right reasons but Julia was getting annoyed with him, only wanting to use him to get out of a bad homelife. Through many antics and close calls, Wes uncovers what happened to the house and that Julia was to blame. He threatens to call the police as Julia almost harms Usha again as she leaves, walking into the woods to never be seen again. This is also when I decided I preferred foxes over red pandas again.
The most complex story I've ever written as of writing this, so I won't be able to give as much detail here. The best way I can describe its style is more of a jukebox musical. But it is a seemingly never ending rabbit hole if you find yourself bored. Being in love with horror and mystery meant I’d stumble across a story format called ARGs. Due to not having as many friends as I did back in school, the idea that I could socialize with new people through making stories was pure gold to me. I changed the story dramatically to be displayed on Twitter as a strange device called Datrrs that could read people’s thoughts. It would randomly read out loud the thoughts of my characters and let people talk to them to affect the story. It was about Jemia, Micheal, Pie, Audrey, Charlie, and MANY others that all lived in a family mansion performing cruel experiments on its family members. There were puzzles in the ancient building and social hierarchies that they had to climb in an attempt to get as many characters out of the house as they could. Many died along the way as others made new friends in the outside world while still being hunted down by the family. Suddenly however the world seemed to have disappeared as the Twitter account went inactive.
The twitter returned, however it was under a new name. The players of the Arg discover that the entire timeline was reset. Some characters were the same but somewhat different. The plot was similar but with twists that complicated things. There were new characters surviving that didn't before and old ones dying when it wasn’t expected. Part way into it however all of my players were taken to help write for a group project, so I felt I needed to join too rather than standing my ground. My plot then derailed to compensate for all of the other writers that I was writing with. I had started to lose what I loved about writing and constantly worried what others thought of my stories. My stories became very messy as I tried to please everyone around me when in reality some of the writers just didn’t like me at all. The story abruptly ends as the manor is burned down in a large fight with its head ruler and the other writer’s characters.
Despite my efforts to befriend some of the writers they wanted nothing to do with me, so I no longer wanted anything to do with them either. I wanted to write for myself again but felt I still needed to write for the writers in the group that stayed by my side as they actually cared about me whether they liked my writing or not. This story was another reset of the timeline. This story however is a lot more different as I had gotten sick of the same plot. I took the over complicated cast and mashed up the favorite characters into a smaller more manageable cast. It revolved around Chester the hyena, Lock the fox, Icarus the alligator, Gambit the nightjar, Sage the goat, Harper the Opossum, Rowan the rabbit, and Mailman the human. It was generally going to be about a corruption happening in the officials of the surrounding towns, resulting in many towns being completely destroyed. It was the social interactions between the characters and the other writers that would determine if they found the source of the corruption and could stop the plans that would get most of the population wiped off the island. I wasn’t happy with my favorite character Lock as her personality still revolved around making other writers happy, making her often try to fit way too many roles at once to the point she began annoying. I was enjoying writing with my friends but no longer enjoyed looking back at my own writing, as it didn’t like it was mine anymore.
The timeline resets again but I have now ditched the beachside aesthetic and now use a woodsy aesthetic because it’s what I know and love. I now write for myself and my own passion so that I can have the tone, themes, characters, personalities, and timeframes that make me happy. I can still write with my friends but it is completely separate from my main story. The plot has been overhauled as well as the characters. Lock is now Lochlan, who like the others, has her own distinct personality that panders to no one. I’ll never know what the future of the story holds or if I’ll ever be completely done with it. As it’s something I’m genuinely passionate about I don’t think it will ever end until I do. I’m just glad I have something I can learn with, change with, and share what I’ve learned.
This was only a name change and a rework of some of the story to be more developed and in depth to reflect the ideas I have for it's future. This is also when Lochlan started going by Michael as I felt the name felt more common and a nice way to bring back an old character in a new light that was from the very beginning.
If you're reading this and feel an urge to try out writing a story or making characters, I highly encourage it. You might have no clue the people you will meet through sharing it or what type of writing you may enjoy unless you jump in head first and get to writing. If you write something and immediately don't like it, that just means there's already a lot you've already learned in your first try and even more to discover.
